Choosing your yacht

Here at High Point Yachting we have been organising private yacht charters for over 24 years and plan to do so for many years to come. We know what it takes to match you with the perfect destination and yacht.  To try and find the best suited yacht for you, we will request some information to start our search.

The most important information we require is:

  • Where would you like to charter?

Don’t worry if you are undecided, we can share destination information and advise you on where is best suited to you. We can share boats from multiple countries to help you decide.

  • When would you like to charter?

If you have exact dates, we can be very specific in our search, however, if you are flexible in your dates then there may be more options open to you and your search can be more boat-led.

  • How many people are in your party? What are the ages?

Knowing the age of guests is helpful for multiple reasons. Firstly, it helps us to ensure that the yachts we recommend are suitable, for example some yachts are not suitable for parties with younger children due to safety reasons. Also, if there are younger children in the party this is important to know, as they may be able to stay in a pullman cabin opposed to an older child or teenager that would require a fixed bed or a cabin. This information will impact the size of the yacht we look for.

  • What is your budget? Does this budget include all expenses or is it just for the yacht rate?

The rate for a weekly charter varies significantly. Rates can vary from thousands to hundreds of thousands. It helps us hugely if we have a rough idea of budget to begin our search. It may be that after seeing our initial suggestions you wish to amend your budget and the search can continue. It is also worth noting that other than yachts in the Caribbean, most yachts run on a ‘Plus Expenses’ basis. This means that when deciding your budget you need to bear in mind that there will be considerable additional costs on top of the weekly charter rate in the form of VAT and Advanced provisioning Allowance (APA).

Other information that is helpful for us to know but is not vital:

  • Do you have a specific type of boat in mind? Eg motor yacht, sailing yacht, catamaran, gulet, a motor sailer.
  • What is your personal style? Do you like modern styling, traditional, homely?
  • What type of charter are you looking for?
Leisure, family, corporate event, special occasion, adventure, cultural, yachting event or regatta. By knowing this we can pair you up with crews that are renowned for those type of charters. For example if you are looking for a yacht charter specifically for diving we can pair you with a crew/yacht that has diving equipment and are a diving qualified crew. Several crewed charters are specialised in kite surfing charters.

Once we have gathered this information, we will present you with a selection of yachts that meet your criteria. We welcome your feedback on these yachts and will either present you with additional yachts following your feedback or if one of the yachts appeals, shall move forward with the booking progress. Be as honest with us as you can, the more detailed feedback we receive the more refined our search can be. Please note that during this process no boats are ‘reserved’, so timing is of the essence.

Once you have selected your ideal yacht, we will go back to the boat to confirm your choice. You are then ready to process onto finalising your charter.
